A painting quote that
buys the right cans.
PaintQuote is an iPhone app for painting contractors. Scan the room, and it takes the doors and windows off the walls, works out the paint for the surface you are really painting, and quotes it as the cans and buckets you will actually carry in — with primer, trim, labour and tax on one page.
Not in the App Store yet. The app is built and in testing. The two calculators below run on its estimating engine and are free to use now.
What it does on a job
- Scan the roomOn an iPhone Pro, the LiDAR scanner measures the walls and finds every door and window, so the wall area it quotes is already net of the holes. On any other iPhone, type length, width and height and it does the same arithmetic.
- Say what the walls are likeSmooth and painted, textured, or new drywall. Texture eats coverage, and new board gets a primer coat at the primer's own spread rate — the two places a quote from the can's label goes wrong.
- Quote the paint as containers2.49 gallons is not something you can buy. The quote says 3 × 1 gal, and it picks the cheapest mix — sometimes that is a five-gallon bucket even though it leaves some over.
- Hand it overPaint, primer, trim by the foot, doors and windows by the piece, labour on the painted area, tax. One PDF, before you leave.

The rules behind the numbers

Honest about the limits
- Interiors. The coverage defaults are for interior walls and ceilings. Exterior siding and masonry need your own numbers.
- A scan is a measurement, not a survey. It is good to a few inches, which is more than enough for paint and not enough for anything cut to fit.
- Your prices. It ships with sample prices so you can see how it works. Replace them with your supplier's.
