Gatelight · for iPhone and iPad
Gatelight shows whether your car may enter a French low-emission zone (ZFE) at the place and time you choose. Where a zone is still in its warning period, it shows the date fines start.
Coming soon to the App Store
Zones are drawn for the car you picked and the time you chose: green where it may enter, red where it may not, striped where fines have not started.
Each zone carries a link to the official order and to the zone's own page, and the date its rules were last checked.
Step by step from the registration document: type, fuel and Euro standard or first registration date. The result is a class, one sentence of why, and a link to the official classification table.
Gatelight downloads a signed rules file while you use it. If the download fails, the rules already on the phone stay. The file is open data.
Zones and rules live on the phone. Only address search, the map background and Pro purchases need a connection.
Gatelight checks when you ask. It does not track your car and sends no alerts when you near a zone.
Gatelight Pro is an auto-renewing subscription: $1.99 a month or $9.99 a year in the US, with the matching App Store price in other countries. There is no free trial; the free part is the trial. If a subscription ends, nothing is deleted. Details are in the terms.
The rules cover French low-emission zones (ZFE), in the zones listed on the data page with the date each one was checked. A place in another country gets the answer "this country is not supported yet". The interface is in English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese (Simplified); the rules are French.
A French low-emission zone asks for a Crit'Air certificate, the sticker on the windscreen. Gatelight does not sell, issue or process it: it only links to the French government's own site for the certificate, certificat-air.gouv.fr, which serves drivers from other countries as well.
The rules of four zones, written out in French and checked on 22 October 2026: ZFE Grand Paris, ZFE Lyon, ZFE Toulouse and ZFE Marseille.
Gatelight is an unofficial app. It is not affiliated with the French state or with any city. The rules are retold from the official orders and may change: only the order itself is binding, and on the road, the signs. The app does not take pollution peaks or personal exemptions into account.
Your car, your saved places and your settings stay on the phone. Address search is Apple Maps search, the rules file comes from this site, and Pro purchases go through the App Store and are confirmed by RevenueCat. Everything is spelled out in the privacy policy.
