Gatelight privacy policy

Last updated: 23 October 2026

The short version. Gatelight has no account, no ads and no tracking. Your car and your saved places stay on your phone. Three outside services are involved: Apple Maps for the map and address search, this website for the rules file, and RevenueCat for confirming a Pro subscription. None of them receives your car or your saved places from Gatelight.

What stays on your phone

This data is kept in the app's own storage on the device and is never sent to the developer. Like other app data, it may be included in the backup of your device that you make with iCloud or a computer; Apple handles those backups. Deleting the app erases it.

Your location

Gatelight asks for your location only while you use the app, and only when you tap Here. It uses the position once, on the phone, to find which zone you are in; it does not store it unless you save the place, and does not send it to the developer. Gatelight does not use your location in the background and does not follow your car. If you decline, everything else works: you can search an address or tap the map instead.

Map and address search: Apple

The map and the address search are Apple's (MapKit). When you type in the "Where to?" field, the text you type and the area of the map on screen are sent to Apple to find matching places, and the map background is loaded from Apple. Apple handles this under its own privacy policy. Without a connection the zones and rules still work; address search and the map background do not.

The rules file: this website

The zones and their rules come as a file that is also downloaded from this website, iliafiliaev.com, so that rules can change without an app update. The app checks for a newer file when you open it, at most once a day, and when you tap "Check for Update" in Settings. The request is an ordinary web request: it carries the network address of your connection and the usual technical details such as the app name and version and your language. It carries no account, no device identifier and nothing about your car, your places or your searches, and I do not use it to identify you. The file is signed; the app checks the signature and the file's checksum before using it and keeps the previous file if anything fails. The file is open data: see the data page.

Purchases and RevenueCat

Gatelight Pro is an auto-renewing subscription processed by Apple. Gatelight uses RevenueCat to confirm the subscription and to restore it on your other devices. For that, RevenueCat receives App Store purchase information and an anonymous, randomly generated app user ID, along with the technical details that its software sends with a request — for example the app and iOS versions, the model of your device, your language and region settings, the country of your App Store account, a vendor identifier that Apple assigns to this developer's apps on your device, and your IP address. When the Gatelight Pro screen is shown, Gatelight also tells RevenueCat that it was shown — the name of the screen and the offer on it, with the same anonymous ID — so that views of the screen can be compared with purchases. RevenueCat does not receive your name, your email, your car or your places. Gatelight does not use any of it for advertising or tracking; how RevenueCat handles the data it receives is set out in its privacy policy. Apple handles payment; Gatelight never sees your payment details.

What Gatelight does not do

Sharing

You can share a verdict as text. The text is made on your phone and leaves it only if you choose a destination in the iOS share sheet.

Ratings

After a few verdicts for places you chose yourself, Gatelight may ask for a rating with the standard iOS prompt. Apple shows and handles that prompt; Gatelight does not see your answer.

Children

Gatelight collects nothing beyond what is described above, from anyone, including children.
