Gatelight help

Answers to the questions people ask first. If yours is not here, write to filyaevilya21@gmail.com.

Gatelight is an unofficial app. It is not affiliated with the French state or with any city. The rules are retold from the official orders and may change: only the order itself is binding, and on the road, the signs. The app does not take pollution peaks or personal exemptions into account.

How do I read the verdict?

The first line is the answer for your car, that place and that time: Allowed, Not allowed (with the fine that applies), Not allowed now, but no fines yet (with the date fines start), Needs a sticker, or Rules unknown. Under it are the rule in one sentence, the strip of hours when you can drive in, the source of the rule and the date it was checked. The buttons open the official order and the zone's own page.

What does "Rules unknown" mean?

The zone is on the map, but its rules have not been checked against the official order yet, or the date up to which they are known has passed. Gatelight does not guess: it says so and links to the zone's official page.

I do not know my class

Open "I don't know my class" on the first screen. Choose the type of vehicle, the fuel, and the Euro standard from the registration document (field V.9) or, if you do not have it, the date of first registration (field B). Documents from other countries may not have these fields, so Gatelight asks in plain words. The result always carries a reminder: the class on the sticker is set by the French state, and if in doubt, the official site decides.

Does Gatelight sell the sticker?

No. Gatelight does not sell, issue or process the Crit'Air certificate. The only official site for it is certificat-air.gouv.fr; the class finder links to it.

How do the rules get updated?

The app checks for a newer rules file when you open it, at most once a day, and when you tap "Check for Update" in Settings. If the download fails or does not pass the checks, the rules already on the phone stay, and Settings says which date they are from. The file itself is open data: see the data page.

A rule looks wrong or out of date

Please write to filyaevilya21@gmail.com with the zone, the place and a link to the order or the page you are looking at. In the meantime, trust the official order and the road signs.

What is free, and what does Pro unlock?

Free: the map, the class finder, the verdict for now or any time today, the strip for today, one car, two saved places, all zone rules with their sources, and rules updates. Gatelight Pro adds the verdict for any date and time, the strip for the next seven days, and unlimited cars and saved places.

How do I subscribe, cancel or restore?

Gatelight Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly, with no free trial. Subscribe from any lock in the app or from Settings. To cancel or change it, use "Manage Subscription" in Settings, or Settings › your name › Subscriptions on your iPhone; cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. To get Pro back on a new device, open Settings and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account. If a subscription ends, nothing is deleted: the car you used last and your first two saved places stay active, and the rest are locked until you subscribe again.

Address search does not work

Address search and the map background need a connection. The zones and their rules work without one. Search covers the area on screen, so move the map to the city you mean.

Does it work outside France?

Not yet. For a place in another country Gatelight says "this country is not supported yet".
